Choosing the Best Edible Luster Dust

There are many luster dust options out there, but not all are great quality. You’ll find some that say “non-toxic” but non-toxic does not mean safe to consume. That’s why I use the Sterling Pearls by The Sugar Art. They are 100% edible AND have an AMAZING shiny finish. In this post I am using my favorite ones “Rose Gold” and “Golden Halo,” but they have many other shades to choose from.

Applying the Luster Dust

First, start by choosing the medium that you would like to use to turn your luster dust into “paint.” You can use vodka or any clear liquid, (don’t worry your macarons won’t taste like alcohol.) If you don’t want to go that route you can also use water, but you won’t get the same results as using the clear alcohol or using The Color Solution.

Second, choose the type of brush you’ll like to use. Personally, I love using a fan brush. You can pinch it on the edges to create a look that is concentrated on the edge of the macaron and gives them a feathered look towards the center. Try different types of brushes and see which one you like best!

Third, let the luster dust dry before handling the macarons to avoid it coming off coming off the macarons and getting all over your hands. If you prefer you can also assemble your macarons before you start applying the luster dust.
